Members of Yorks Downtown Arts District Create Moving Art
Artist Andrea Linebaugh has always been driven by art. Now, it will be her turn to be in the drivers seat.
On Saturday, April 16th, Andrea and other members of the York Downtown Arts District will join with area artists to make art that moves; literally. Using Andreas own mini-van as a canvas, the group will transform the plain blue van into a moving, functioning work of art. The van will then be driven by Andrea, and used to promote the Downtown Arts District. The live arts demonstration will be done as part of the Downtown York Pear Blossom Festival, organized by Main Street York.
The van will be placed at Continental Square on the corner of Market and George Street downtown from 10am until 2pm. Area artists will then tag a portion of the van with an original creation, using paints, mirror, and other three-dimensional items. The public and press are encouraged to stop by the demonstration and take pictures.
For a full listing of activities happening during the downtown Pear Blossom Festival organized by Main Street York, please visit their web site at http://www.mainstreetyork.org/ and click on the events page.
The Downtown York Arts District consists of shops, restaurants, and galleries surrounding Central Market House on Beaver, Market, and Philadelphia streets that work together to promote the arts in downtown York. I am sure I couldn't have said it any better than Kelley has! Although, I'd like to add that we will be at Continental Square around 8 am and will be there until after dark on April 16th 2005. It will take us longer than a few hours to complete the artwork on the van. The prep work will begin the Sunday before (April 10)at noon in the Central Market Parking Garage, if you are interested in Before Photos!
The Van in question is my Blue 1995 Chrysler Town and Country Mini Van. It is the very same van I use to drive my girls to soccer practice, Doctor appointments, and the Mall! And that's where you'll see it. After being turned into art, the van will still be my daily driver/ the family vehicle! Not for the feint of heart, right? I assure you I am not feint of heart!
The Art Van can be seen in Downtown York and many other places in York County- and maybe even all over the country! See it most frequently at my store- The Studio and Art Bar, located at 38 North Beaver Street, York, PA. I'm there Wednesday from 3:30 pm to 6pm, Friday from 10am to 12:15pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm!
I can be reached at 717-718-0907 or andrea@thealexandreacollection.com for more information.
